Now that Ted Lasso season 4 is happening, there is one major plotline the sports comedy needs to fix due to its disappointing season 3 resolution. Although Ted Lasso season 3 was supposed to be the final season, it was recently announced that Apple TV greenlit the sitcom for another season. For the most part, this is exciting news. Ted Lasso is beloved for its positive, heartfelt themes and witty comedy. Plus, many were left disappointed by the Ted Lasso ending. With that, Ted Lasso season 4 has a lot of work to do to win over audiences again.
A significant aspect of Ted Lasso is the fact that it is an ensemble show. Though Jason Sudekis acts as the face of the series, Ted Lasso's success comes from its amazing cast of characters, including Jamie Tartt, Roy Kent, Rebecca Welton, Nate Shelley, and more. Unfortunately, with so many characters at play, the series wasn't able to give everyone a happy ending, or at the very least, not the ending that audiences desperately wanted. Luckily though, Ted Lasso season 4 has the chance to change things. Hopefully, with viewer feedback, it can give people what they want.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Resolved The Roy/Keeley/Jamie Love Triangle In A Disappointing Way
What Made The Love Triangle Plot So Bad
One plotline from Ted Lasso season 3 that left audiences wishing for more was the love triangle between Roy, Keeley, and Jamie. For context, Ted Lasso began with Jamie and Keeley dating. However, after becoming fed up with Jamie's selfishness, Keeley leaves him and forms a romance with Roy. Unfortunately, this relationship doesn't last either, due to Roy's fear of vulnerability. Thus, Ted Lasso season 3 introduces a stalemate. With both Roy and Jamie growing into better people and forming a bond of their own, they both vie for Keeley's heart. However, this love triangle ends in an anticlimax.
Actor | Ted Lasso Character |
---|---|
Brett Goldstein | Roy |
Brendan Hunt | Beard |
Hannah Waddingham | Rebecca |
Nick Mohammed | Nate Shelley |
Juno Temple | Kelley |
Jeremy Swift | Leslie Higgins |
James Lance | Trent Crimm |
Ultimately, Keeley decides to pick neither of the men, which is part of the reason why the plot's ending resolution is so disappointing. After so much growth, it seemed possible that Roy, Jamie, and Keeley could all love each other equally. However, Ted Lasso season 3 decided to push its characters backward, forcing Roy and Jamie into an arbitrary fight that should never have happened in the first place. Overall, it felt like all the growth experienced by the characters went out the window simply to bring the storyline to a quick end.

How 1 Casting Update Changes The Ted Lasso Love Triangle
Now that Ted Lasso is officially returning, the show can fix its unresolved love triangle. With another season on deck, it will have to address the relationships between Keeley, Roy, and Jamie. Another Ted Lasso development also makes this easier. It is being reported that Phil Dunster will not be returning to Ted Lasso season 4 as a series regular. With Jamie either absent or playing a minor role in Ted Lasso season 4, the show can strengthen Keeley and Roy's relationship.
By forcing Roy and Jamie against each other, and making Keeley reject both of them, Ted Lasso season 4 has a lot of catching up to do.
Without a doubt, it will not be easy for the series to fix the mistakes it made in season 3. By forcing Roy and Jamie against each other, and making Keeley reject both of them, Ted Lasso season 4 has a lot of catching up to do. These relationships were some of the best parts of the show, so losing them completely would be a shame. Therefore, Ted Lasso needs to use Phil Dunster's exit as an opportunity to get back to where Roy and Keeley were before.
